The new edition of Household and similar electrical appliances — Safety — Part 2.24: Particular requirements for refrigerating appliances, ice-cream appliances and ice-makers, drafted by joint committee EL-002, was approved by the New Zealand Standards committee on 6 October 2021 and by Standards Australia on 20 October 2021.
Thus the new household refrigerating-appliance standardAS/NZS 60335.2.24:2021on2021-11/26 was officially published.The mandatory date of the standard is2024-11/26, customers of refrigerating appliances should watch the new safety requirements, adjust designs and complete testing and certification to the new edition.
What changed from AS/NZS 60335.2.24:2010 + A1:2013 + A2:2018 to AS/NZS 60335.2.24:2021?
1. Updated to stay aligned with IEC 60335-1 (edition 5.2);
2. Old notes were converted to normative text or deleted;
3. Updated normative references and related documents;
4. Clarified the definition of “free space”;
5. New input-current requirements for appliances with inverter-driven compressors (10.2);
6. New compatibility tests of winding insulation for compressors using different refrigerants and oils (22.9);
7. Updated requirements for accidental contact between uncoated aluminium and copper tubes (22.111);
8. Clarified tests for accessible glass panels (22.116);
9. For refrigerating appliances, requirements for materials wrapping or contacting insulation were added and unrelated text removed (22.117, 30.2, 30.2.101, Annex EE)
10. Updated requirements for motor-run capacitors (24.5, 24.8)
11. Clarified fan locked-rotor tests (Annex AA)
